Katharine Hepburn (1907-2003), four-time Oscar-winner, AFI's top Actress of all time, and Hollywood icon. She also symbolized independance at a time when such options for women were limited. Born into an unconventional New England family, Kate was no different in her willful and eccentric personality. It was these qualities that enabled her to overcome the many obstacles in her life and career. Above all, she endured, and remained both a star and something of a disinctive quality. Her long-term affair with her frequent costar, Spencer Tracy, was an open secret among Tinseltown's elite and among the public as well. Her self-deprecating view of herself and her profession also seems to fit with the music. It is also telling that Kate did not think she accomplished as much as she could have. "With all the opportunities I had, I could have done more. And if I'd done more, I could have been quite remarkable." Enjoy!

Katharine is an icon. She changed Hollywood with her strong persoanlity, huge intelligence and, of course, magnificent performances. She was (still is) what many women want to be. She had a brilliant career, though a little troubled in the mid-1930's. Who can forget The Philadelphia Story? Who can forget The Lion in winter? Bringing up Baby? The african Queen? Who can forget Katharine Hepburn? No one.
