Felicia is obviously feeling the effects of more alcohol as she squints in pain against the sun when she opens the blinds and moves very slowly. She is not exactly thrilled to see Lorna when Lorna comes by to check on her and lies that she has a touch of that flu that's going around. Lorna doesn't believe Felicia has the flu. When the phone rings, Felicia asks Lorna to answer it because Felicia is trying to save her voice. Lorna answers, and it's Rachel. Rachel asks if Felicia is available. Felicia signals to Lorna that she doesn't want to talk to Rachel, but Lorna refuses to let her mother off the hook and tells Rachel that Felicia is right there and makes Felicia take the phone and talk to Rachel. When Rachel says that Felicia sounds terrible, Felicia tells Rachel the same flu story she told Lorna when Lorna arrived. Rachel asks if Felicia is taking care of herself. Felicia assures Rachel that she is, and that Lorna is there to watch over her. Rachel tells Felicia that she finished reading Felicia's manuscript and she'd like to sit down and talk to her about it. Felicia says, "So in other words, you hated it, right?" Felicia asks snarkily. Rachel replies that she didn't say that. It's just that it's different from her other works. Felicia retorts that she thought that was the whole idea, and they talked about going into a younger market. Rachel says she doesn't want to discuss this over the phone and asks if she can come over later, but Felicia tells her that's not going to work because she should spend some time trying to get over this cold, and she'll call Rachel when she's feeling better. Then she hangs up on Rachel. Rachel tells Cass that Felicia says she has the flu, but she doesn't know what to believe, and then she tells Cass about going over to Felicia's a few days ago after Felicia had called her the night before and asked her to come over to talk about the new book, and when Rachel arrived the next day, Felicia had no recollection of talking to Rachel or inviting her over. That day Felicia used the excuse that she had jet lag. Cass tells Rachel that Felicia promised him... Rachel interrupts Cass to tell him that Felicia has a drinking problem, and her promises don't mean anything anymore. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
Very realistic depiction of an alcoholic. I know, having been there myself. I had no ability to look after my own life. I would blame everyone else and make excuses for why I couldn't do things. It interferred with my job, you name it. Recovery is possible. Kudos to AW for having taken up this horrible social issue.
