This is a time lapse video of the building of a 40 foot wooden sail boat. We are currently in the middle of building her, so the time lapse wont be complete until about June.

How many laminate layers are needed? What is the advantage versus the traditional strip planking?

Generally, only two diagonal layers of 1/8inch laminates are needed. Although for this project we had up to 8 layers in the highest stressed areas.
Laminating over strip planks adds a significant amount of strength and is very light weight. So you can use a thinner planking and save on weight with even more strength then you would have with normal planking

yes, you cant...its a custom design by Alfred Sanford of Nantucket.

What is the thikness of an individual fir veneer? What was the average total skin thickness? Thank you!

the fir veneers are 1/8 inch thick from 4 layers up to 8 layers where the ballast is attached and at the stem.
