  • that was core, and not prog.

  • you suck

  • @darshdoeshla So facking agreed..!!

  • @jauerbaton89 : It's called personal opinion. I've always believed that even the most complex guitar licks can be overshadowed by one bluesey note in the right place. This however is still impressive in its own right, I couldn't do it.

  • whaT a shit! I HATE ARPEGIOS!Today everybody think that this is the only way to be the best musician...no.that's not true.i peffer to listen the three perfect notes in solo instead a hundred notes playing in this same tact...

  • Who cares if you didn't get into Berklee. You put it out there. You have put up and shut up, which is more than what 90% of everyone else does. At least you just got a little bit better at writing solos.

  • @madmartyr17 Nearly none of those are necessary.

Progresive means moving forward, and thats what its about. having less structure, that and weird time signatures. Just look at Fates Warning, considered the first prog metalband, they aren't amazingly technical at all, neither do i sense a huge sense of jazz influence, people really need to stop looking at Dream theater as the nr 1 example of prog. I like them.. but really... You don't need to wank of your instrument 15 minutes in order to be prog.

  • @Odinsgade Progressive means as it says. making use of progression in your music. Going forward, having less or no structure. that and working with uneven and other time signatures from time to time.

All these theories that you have to make 7 minute long wanksolos, must have jazz influences, amazing musical knowledge and incredibly technical music in general are all false and unnecesairy.

Like i said, progressive means going forward. AfuckinLOT of people seem to have the wrong idea about Prog.

  • Sorry that you didn't get into Berklee...

  • @Odinsgade The presence of Jazz? influences, as well as a mastery of advanced music theory. THe genre focuses on the technical mastery of the instruments, as signified by combining speed and proficiency with musicality and melody. THese concepts are combined with Uneven or asymmetric time signatures, often shifting multiple times over a single phrase. For instance, Dream Theater's "Dance of Eternity" goes through 128 time changes in just under 6 minutes.
