Here's my selfbuilt 1541 ultimate case (made from a heavily sawed and filed standard Reichelt/Conrad case) playing the wellknown 1541 "Daisy" drivemusic aka Sing Song Serenade from Christopher Capon. I took the speaker from one of those passive cable-less plugin speakers, it's an ultraflat 8 Ohm speaker that just fits perfectly in the case right above the FPGA. For me this is the ideal solution, as I won't be taking a set of external speakers with me to parties, nor will use headphones merely to listen to my 1541 ultimate. But sound is important, since you can tell if the floppy is stuck in a loading loop or if it's just loading very slowly, because you can hear the head move! Crazy Gideon included that awesome feature - make use of it! ;-)

  • NardDogz: Yes, it's completely powered by the c64 with a standard powersupply.

  • laatmaarzien: It took me about 3 hours to make that (but I had some experience that saved me some time from the first case I made! ;-), i used several files (squared, round, flat), a belt grinder (to shave off lots of plastic), a metal saw (to cut off the other end!), a drill for the holes, superglue and hotglue (for a rail inside for the board to lay on and the speaker).. No, it's not that hard actually! ;-)

  • u can also build a datasette to usb cable for the stand alone mode. that config don't need another powersupply, too.

    mine works fine.

  • Very interesting. Nice modification!

Is it completely powered by the C64?

Is a heavy duty power supply required for the computer?

    Thanks.

  • Nice case, is it easy to make one?

  • ha ha ha wonderfull..
