@Vanderhoffenmeister good question, its a module that has certain features that is mounted on top of the arduino development board. This was a wave shield. Check out sparkfun for more shields

Hey, thanks a lot, I appreciate it. I have always been fascinated with alarm clocks, and how they can be improved... Believe me, I am not a morning person... I have actually been testing out this clock for a few days now, and I can't believe how nice it is to wake up to "Audrey" and her calm British accent. lol.
