Jerusalem is not a pleasant place. The religious divide there is sensitive enough as it is.

If the Jews don't get them, the Muslims will.

If they had pulled that Q'uran burning stunt out there - they would have likely been dragged into the streets by an angry Muslim mob and had their skulls caved in with stones. Just recently, a bunch of Christian tourists were attacked and stoned to death by a mob of 50 Muslims at temple mount.
