Hookah is for tabacco. Waterpipes/Bongs are for cannibis.

I started out liking hookah, but it has really lost a lot of appeal. I'd rather just smoke my pipe now.

@kall58 The term shisha is only used in the US (as far as I know) to refer to hookah tobacco. Shisha is used to refer to the pipe in parts of the middle east. Not all hookah tobaccos are aromatic. The traditional styles aren't flavored. They are just tobacco and molasses. I have a couple of traditional varieties I like to mix with flavored tobaccos. You probably could use pipe tobacco in a hookah provided you mixed it with molasses or honey. I might have to try that.

yeah hookahs are originally for tobacco smoking but some do use it for smoking pot.

I would say the main reason to avoid hookahs is because the tobacco is meant to be inhaled and an average hookah 'session' is usually about an hour long.
