  • 1) I know it will reduce pressure on the shins because it shifts the emphasis more to the calves.

    As far as your knees, I suggest you check you check the arch of your feet to make sure they haven't fallen. If they have fallen, this could explain your knee discomfort.

    2) I make sure my running shoes have proper support and room in the toe area and replace them every few months. I wear the same shoes for running outside as running on a treadmill.
