Vancouver is identified as the most liveable city in the world according to the latest annual ranking compiled by the Economist magazine. The Economist emphasizes, and I quote Cities that score best tend to be mid-sized cities with a relatively low population density. The Economist goes on to say that Low density often fosters a broad range of recreational availability without leading to high crime levels or overburdened infrastructure.
Low density in Vancouver will not be the norm for long. This is because city council has rezoned 94% of Vancouver's residential properties to allow for the construction of laneway housing. Over time this will significantly increase density while destroying single family neighbourhoods. Even though the Laneway Housing program is still in its early stages it has already impacted a number of neighbourhoods. This presentation will describe the impact of the laneway housing program on one neighbourhood in the City of Vancouver.
So heads up Vancouverites --This could be -Coming to a lane near you.
People can hate all they want about laneway houses, but this is the future. 20-50 years from now i see vancouver a populated dense city like any asian country would be. Statistics show that vancouver has no more land at all to build and host a single family house. So I vote Yes to Laneway Houses. Apartments are a major inconvenience, elevators, rooms side by side, strata fees etc.The lowest cost for one is $240,000 for 1 bedroom and have little to no privacy at all compared to laneway houses.

There are some standard lot houses in East Vancouver now have 8 bed rooms and 3 kitchens. Now the city is allowing people to build another house on the back yard. What a stupid idea!! Think why you want to live in a house!! Laneway home is a lame idea and will make East Vancouver houese very unattractive to live in.
