  • I love the bike, but if you can get an evo, the engine lasts much longer between rebuilds. Evo is 80's technology, Ironheads are 30's technology. Even 20's.

Sure they were developed in the 50's, but the technology of the engine is similar to the knucklehead. Thus it needs alot of TLC.

  • @mandaltby Yeah man that is what I heard, but this is all I have, yes the rebuilds suck

  • it sounds nothing line that

    cheap small camera, windy day

or retarded operator perhaps has finger on mic

  • Just put up a video of mine check it out!

  • anyone that knows harleys knows what an ironhead is, and anyone who rides a shovel wouldnt race an ironhead.

    a 61inch sporty is quicker than a 74inch shovel.

  • I don't recall ever hearing the comment "ironhead" being used back inthe 70's or 80's otherthan comparing heads to the xr. ...maybe it was coined after the whoreintal evo came out. Anyway, always nice to see and hear a pre-evo anything. Nice bike

  • The original Maverick Renegade HOG, 1957-1985. Very loud, Very moody, Original Hells Angeles bike of choice. Often not included in Harley enthusiast "Reindeer Games". And also pissed off because the cone shovel was faster than the XL1000.

  • Ironhead was given to the XL's because they were the last Harley to use real iron for the heads. 1985 was the last year. The new ones use aluminum alloy so technically they are NOT iron heads. XL's ARE the Maverick renegade HOGS, very loud, very moody, often not included in "reindeer games". The Original Hells Angeles bike!.

  • Built from 1957-1985. These little Sportsters will eat you big fat bloated big twins.

  • Hey, maybe he never paid attention to the names of the engines (at least the "smaller" ones) and just recognized it as "sportster" from that time period. his follow up comeback was a bit of a dick comment though.
