This is the first of my 3 part series on the summer sky. This series introduces the public to what they will observe in the sky (e.g. during an organized a star party). I will present beginner level explanations for the commonly shown summer objects.
In this video I focus on the Milky Way. I will introduce viewers to the entire Milky Way starting with the portion visible in the US during the summer and visiting portions only visible from the southern hemisphere or during the winter. The video will show what the Milky Way looks like in other portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. We will view stars orbiting the black hole at the center of the galaxy. Finally we will discuss the shape of the Milky Way.
