"Is it a Prophecy?" by Nabil Shaban

A poem based on a dream Nabil had when he was a child in the early 1960s, of Armeggedon. He has been haunted ever since by this nightmare of the Apocalypse, wondering if the dream was a prophecy of something he would witness in his own life time - the End of the World, and over the decades watched out for the signs...seeing more and more omens that seem to confirm his greatest fears...AIDS (created in a US military laboratory), manufactured deadly flu epidemics, nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, WMDs, increase religious intolerance, sectarianism, return of Imperialism, increase in natural disasters, international terrorism, greater civil unrest and disorders, decline and erosion of civil liberties, human rights and democratic princilples in the West, increase in police state mentality and mechanisms, end of Humanist and Socialist idealism, return of jingoism and zenophobia and bloodthirsty demands for Holy Crusades and Jihads, ethnic cleansing, genetic engineering, genetic cleansing, eugenics, campaigns for assisted suicide, euthanasia, wars for oil, global warming, pollution, detrimental climate change, junk food and junk mass entertainment, gladitorial television, child abuse, increase in slave labour, weakening and destruction of labour unions and workers rights, rampant Capitalism, runaway greed of multinational corporations and banks, move towards oppressive world governemnt, New World Order, microchip-identity implants, growing signs of the Coming of the Antichrist, destruction of the environment, bio-diversity threatened, depletion of ozone layer, melting of the ice-caps, de-forestation, growth in endangered species and extinctions, increase in Suicide Cults, Satanism and Messianism, increase in psychic activity, growth in paranormal and supernatural signs and omens, more mass sightings of anomalous aerial phenomena and UFOs, growing evidence of super intelligent technologically advanced extraterrestrial visitations, surveillance and interference.




Is it really true?

Nabil Shaban wrote the poem "Is it a Prophecy?" on May 23rd, 1984. Later that year he created a soundscape for it and recorded it as a song. Then in August 23rd 2008, he produced this video montage for his song "Is it a Prophecy?"

The poem "Is it a Prophecy" is to be found in Nabil Shaban's book, DREAMS MY FATHER SOLD ME,
an anthology of his poetry and graphic art.
