Borderlands - Rust Commons West [Secret Chest + Avoiding Death Fee]

Taken during my second playthrough, I noticed that while there are a fair few videos showing where this chest is - it seems no one has discovered this handy little hint to avoid the death fee when getting down from this area. This stuff below is already stated in the video, but i'll put it here too for extra emphasis.

Normally, the only way to get out of the area where this secret chest is, is to die, resulting in a rather large fee for your troubles. I say, forget that nonsense! This video will not only show you where the chest is, but how to get out of that area safely, and more importantly - death fee free! All you have to do is hug the rock wall on the right as closely as possible, and drop down to a little rock landing/platform. You'll teleport, but get no fee for dying.

You really need to hug that right wall closely, and take it slow. Going too fast will send you flying farther out, and you can still fall off the cliffs as you teleport to a New-U station, resulting in you getting a fee anyways, so you need to be careful. I find holding the Down and Right buttons, so that you are essentially walking backwards and to the right (towards the wall) during the teleport sequence also helps prevent you from falling off the ledge. Though that may just be me being overly cautious.

For the most part, that secret chest has given me some pretty rare items even during my first playthrough, so don't let my rather unimpressive loot discourage you. You now have the ability to farm this chest for all its worth. Your wallet will thank you.

do more weapons appear in the chest if you go away and go back later

@LegendaryHobo182 If you restart the game - ie: save and go back to the main menu, then reload - all chests will be reset, and you can get more stuff out of them. Back when I made this video, I did that all the time for New Haven chest farming. Seems Gearbox has a problem with people spending a lot of time trying to get good weapons there, so they "fixed" that.

Now it's all about Crawmerax farming and armory runs.

Cant you just, exit the game? it saves it right? just exit and start your game, it should theoretically load you in New Haven...right? or does that make me look like a noob?

@CharlieRomero You could. This is just an alternative for people who don't want to do that, for whatever reason. Also, my game must have glitched, because just exiting a game resulted in me losing any items/weapons I had found.

Why most players post Borderlands on PC now a days? Is it just Xbox 360 dying away?

@Soulk33p3r7 I'm not sure if this is the real reason (but for me it is) but recording game footage (even in HD quality) is easier to do on a PC than it is for a console. Recording from a console usually requires you to buy some form of hardware cables and a capture card, which isn't that cheap most of the time.

Recording from a PC just requires a quick download of a program like Fraps or Hypercam - then boom, you're golden!

this chest doesnt like me... i farmed it for about 2 hours once and got crap weapons... meanwhile my friend is doing the same thing for 2 minutes and getting awesome stuff.

If you don't have the DLCs, Rust Commons West is an ideal place for farming loot.
