This video shows the tech demo I developed for my diploma thesis.
The NURBS-model* of the killeroo is tessellated on the GPU in realtime.
Shifting the tessellation to the GPU leads to several advantages:
- huge savings of memory and bandwidth
- no pre-processing needed
- short loading time
- fast rendering
- theoretically unlimited continuous level of detail
- modification and animation possible in realtime
- high quality normals and shading
* Actually the model of the killeroo consists of non-rational B-Splines which are treated as NURBS.
