@maxamillionentco exactly. The writers knew that he show peeked in season 6, which was the year that Dylan was written off the show about mid way through. They felt like it was doomed so they tried to go and bring back the old days, but there is no such thing as truly "going back" as they would quickly find out. It was good to have Dylan back on the show, but I knew from the moment he returned that it would not be like it was in seasons 1-6. Can't recapture the good old days.

i agree bringing Dylan back didn't change much about declining ratings. The best years of 90210 were seasons 1-7

The writers just got desperate for the last 2 seasons after Brandon left. They brought Dylan back to keep the ratings up.
