The Yamaha XV Virago is still a brilliant hybrid bike. Born from a rich history of off-road and street bikes (remember the YA, RD & DT series). A Virago looks like a chopper and is the only chopper besides HD that has some history to claim, but with minor changes, it shows to be the most adaptable to a different kinda riding.
Some examples : Progressive front springs give more stability. The better VMax rear resuspension lifts it by 3 centimeters. (An idea of Hunter@) A taller rear tyre pumps it futher up and a Mustang saddle ads another inch in hight and an extra inch of butspace. The roaring aftermarket Laser exhaust system has no protection shields. It looks great but it also gets hot hot hot. That's where the two 25 years old Yamaha DT50 cover shields come in. The bullhorn is replaced for obvious reasons by an (each side) 1 inch cut-off drag bar. The cut-off-on-eye-sight plexiglass shield is a solid 4mm thick Harley clone. Tougher than the original and really a must-have during European winters.
The old carburettor powered Virago 1100 gives its maximum torque at 3000 rpm. It takes a close to 2liter new bike to do only slightly better (lower rpm).
Tune up a Virago and it will fit you like a glove. Don't trust my words,... trust the Virago and it's successor the Star.

STOP THE EXPORT OF OUR WESTERN-EUROPEAN VIRAGOS. KEEP THE NAME ALIVE.
DISTRIBUTE NOT ONLY EXPENSIVE 1300CC-up STARS INSIDE EUROPE BUT ALSO SMALLER SIZED STARS TO ATTRACT THE NOVICE BIKERS.
Many new bikers prefer to buy a taller bike sooner or later,... but nobody in his sane mind starts biking with a 1300+ cc engine.
NO SMALL TRY = NO TALL BUY !!!

live & let live,... ride free.
So i ride a scooter. What about it?

Nothing, I ride a scooter sometimes too.. just doesn't suit the bike if you ask me
serpentza 3 years ago
Oh,.. yes. Well, you're absolutely right.
There is more on that bike that does not fit. have you see the enduro shields on the exhaust ;-)
Anyway,... this bike fitted me as a glove. Indeed,... fitted. After a 5700 km ride out with friends around the Baltic Sea the read cylinder had lost all it's compression (did an oil change, not the reason) due to wear out,... so I bought a new V-engine that rides like the XV1100, the Suzuki DL650 aka "mountain king" + fat bar and the Givi top case ;-)

Nah, what an idea. Let's just offend those genuine tough bikers who hide behind the stove on cold winter days. LOL
