The American Army Air Forces ultimately destroyed Romanian oil capacity and cut the flow to the Nazi war machine.
The first segment of this video is a (seemingly) contemporary American newsreel report of the mission followed by a portion of a 1960s CBS television special on the same events.

Romanian pilots were the best pilots out there and they were FIRST CLASS pilots. Not so true about Americans.. The only conflict between Romania and USA. USA lost :) LIKE this!

@NielssBohr Well, there was never a direct battle. it was a mission. So the "battle" wasn't really lost, but the "mission" was essentially a failure, especially in the early stages. Production was slowed down, but never cut off completely. In the end the axis forces in Romania were defeated in a complex series of events. I am a friend of Romania so don't think I wish to insult her, but facts are facts.

@prunix7 unlike the germans, they were brave, and fighting to regain lost territories. while the germans killed killed and killed. disgusting, 500.000 people dying for their country is same as 5.000.000 dying for the nazis. 35% of oil, from the world's first oil refinery is same a 70% of stolen oil. it was given with the hope to regain what was theirs.

If I sit and think about it, the Romanians provided almost nothing in exchange for German protection, then for the Soviet protection. Much better to let germans and russians to work and die for Romanians.

@ancamg the german army was the most disgusting army. the germans "contributed" at the time with mass genocide, rapes killings and stealing. yes, my grandparent's house was an SS transmition outpost, they paid for everything they used. but that does not mean they are "correct" if they actually pay for products used from allies.
