Sweet Papa Stovepipe - Mamas Angel Child

This one is impossible categorize because it is a musical chimera. Basically, it is a 16 bar proto-blues with an odd but sophisticated progression vaguely reminiscent of ragtime - all played in waltz time! It even has an arpeggiated and inverted a minor chord substitution thrown in the 7th bar to really mess with your head. Recorded by an obscure musician who only recorded one other song - All Birds Look like Chicken to Me which by comparison is very basic and backwoodsy - similar to "Chicken Can't roost too high for me" and Blind Bogus Ben Covington's "I Heard the Voice of a Porkchop Say"

that verse is hard to hear. my interpretation is: Hacks and those [horses] all formed a line (3x). Yes, to bury that sweet babe's body of mine.

[horses] sounds more like hearses, but why would you have more than one hearse for a single burial? I can't fit all of the lyrics into a reply so I will post them on my channel for you.

Another gem. I've been watching through your recent uploads, and they're all great! I pick "I heard the voice of porkchop say" from time to time. I heard he was called Bogus Ben Covington because he pretended to be blind.
