A couple of assumptions: (1) I think it was 1992, (2) I think this was Rhonda's first Grand Ole Opry performance. I was lounging, half-asleep, when I saw those white pumps and energetic legs striding across the stage like they were on a mission. I knew something wonderful was about to happen, and it's a wonder I didn't hurt myself jumping up and slapping a tape in the VCR. This is every second I captured, but she captured my attention that night, and my appreciation for her just keeps growing. I'm pretty sure I'll never be "over" Rhonda.

  • Rhonda is the best female bluegrass singer, and that's saying a lot. I'm the last person to even imagine suggesting any change in the Bluegrass band instrument make up for any number of valid reasons, and this is one ultimate group, but Weldon's pedal steel work sure didn't take anything away from the presentation.

  • @clyderf You and I have a lot in common: Clyde (my middle name), an honorable name untl Ray Stevens applied it to a camel :-), age, and a love for Rhonda and Weldon Myrick. The Grand Old Opry has not been the same since he left. I don't care for steel guitar solos, but on songs where he did his super excellent accents and short breaks for Rhonda (her country period) and Reba McEntire, for example, I know where he is on every song and wait expectantly to hear him. He's the best.

  • I love this version of the song vs the later one she put out, I still can remember watching Nashville Now when she was a guest, Crook and Chase were the Mcs. Anyway they introduced Rhonda and the curtain went up i just had a feeling something was gonna happen, LOL The Mic stand she was singing in got caught in the curtain as it raised, Rhonda was so embarrassed but everyone else was laughin it was kinda funny

  • @Mattea68 If this is the incident I am remembering, although she looked startled, she never stopped singing. She is a true performance artist.

  • witch one is Darrin?

  • @assassinator82 I'm not sure, but Rhonda's introduction indicates he is the one next to her, playing bass. He had a lot of hair then. My 6-year-old video

    "Dolly Parton - Welcome Home"

shows him pretty much the way he looks now. I put name tags on him and Rhonda at about 2 minutes.

  • Beautiful singing, not all the screaming that goes on today.

  • @assassinator82 -- Darrin Vincent is indeed the one on the doghouse bass. Funny that he was rockin' the mullet back then....considering his lack of hair now! lol Thats Brian on the mandolin.

  • One of the very best Bluegrass performers. Go lady. You are much appreciated by true Bluegrass fans.
