German victory in June 1940 had profound consequences. For the British and French, it was the worst possible outcome. France was defeated, its northern half as well as its Atlantic coast occupied by German forces. Britain was isolated from Continental Europe and had no prospect of reentering it to dislodge Adolf Hitler without the help of powerful allies (i.e., the United States and Soviet Union). France was now ruled by the authoritarian Marshal Philippe Pétain, who set up a new government center at Vichy, where his regime pursued policies that mimicked those of other Fascist states.

  • @Camarale May all the French love their country as fervently as you do.

  • @Camarale I know very well the pride you have in your country and I used it against you and that was wrong and I apologize.

  • @rembrant1vanryn

The French are like others, no more or less.

  • @rembrant1vanryn I was simply poking fun at you and I have greatly offended you and I am sorry for this you shouldn't take your history so seriously.

  • @Camarale I am aware that the French people were betrayed by some of their leaders. And a great many French wanted to fight to the last man for their country.

  • @rembrant1vanryn

Not entire France surrendered, as this capitulation was decided by French authorithies, to avoid bigger destructions. Some French units gave up only on orders, after this armistice, in the Maginot line, for instance, where Germans failed to size many forts. And Many French units were still operational in French colonies. After this armistice, only half of France was occupied.Soviets lost 4 million prisoners until 1942. UK was saved, only because it's an island.

  • @Camarale Yes but the deference between the British soldiers surrendering and your entire nation surrendering is dramatically different.

English decent ? So, i understand your pathetic comments,as many English have often their mouths full of shit concerning the French, as a lot of Anglosaxons. These boasting clowns should thanks the Channel sea who always saved their asses, through centuries. They were overcrushed in France and Belgium in 1940, and surrendered to the Japs in Singapore in 1942.

  • @Camarale Nope my family has been here since the 17th century. English decent.

  • @rembrant1vanryn I suggest to buy you a brain. Maybe you're an immigrant trash who found

    shelter in this shiltand. Loser.
