I had the Gastric Bypass Surgery in Oct of 1999. I was 5' tall and 316 pounds ~ Here is a picture show of before and after shots... The doctors said I'd only live about 5 years if I didn't have the surgery... so it is a true blessing to still be kickin'. Yes, that is me playing those drums ~ this is the intro to the next video listed on my channel... "Let's Get Funky", Big Mike Clark - guitar, Smokin' Dave Vincent - harp, Lulio - bass, and Carol Dierking - drums

  • Wow!! You look great. I'm going to have RNY in a few months. I was wondering if you had to have any plastic surgery because of excess skin.

    Thanks,

    Susan

  • Thanks Susan!

I have not had the plastic surgery - though it would surely be a great thing to happen. I lost too much there for a bit, while I came to terms with the fact that I do have excess skin. Perhaps one day. :)

    Good Luck... Safe Journey!

  • Has it really been 9 years already? Jezzzzz!

    You are beautiful.

  • Ahhhh... Jezzzzzz.... Thanks!

Wow! 10 years in October - and to think they only gave me a life expectancy of 5 years before surgery! I guess I showed them. hehe

    Life is good.

  • Wow Carol!!!!!! Respect!!!!!

    Many greetings from Germany.

    Yours

    Markus

    I appreciate you. :)

  • Thank you Teresa!!! I wish you great success! It truly is a journey... and it can be liberating! I really wanted to drive home the transition with this video. I remember the day that the 'before' pic was taken. I was feeling so ashamed for being fat that day. I felt trapped and misunderstood. My talents and gifts lie dormant inside. What a blessing it has been to experience the transformation. Best wishes for you!!!

    Carol

  • Thanks!!! It has really been like coming out of a cocoon. Optimism is primary. For Sure. :)

  • Thanks!!! Yes... that is me on the drums. :) Good luck with your surgery and the modifications that follow. You can do it!!! :)
