What motivation does Derren Brown have to criticize mediums unless it is based on true belief on his part? None that I can come up with. But for a medium I can see the motivation to dismiss Mr. Brown's criticism. Also the way you are addressing the problem. Instead of explaining how a medium works properly, you merely talk down on the people that criticize you. That is a sign of fear which in turn points to the conclusion that mediums are fake.

Blink, Houdini spent a lot of his life debunking fake mediums. A lot of magicians did.

Most mediums are 100% cold/warm/hot readers, the idea of cold reading is well understood and accounts for pretty much every well known medium.

Some are mistaken, or just lying their way through it. If there's a real medium, he has yet to show the world that he can do something a normal person could not.

@MediumCJSibley Not necessarily. The thought of an afterlife is only exciting when the afterlife you picture is positive in some way. Imagine your afterlife as eternal damnation and torture....NOT VERY EXCITING. Consider the number of different beliefs and Religions that exist, and you'll find the odds are stacked against you. Granted I don't know your spiritual and religious beliefs, but you get the point. The thought of an Afterlife serves as a simple means of coping with death for many.

With ya! I saw a so called "debunking" of a Van Praagh reading, he got the name " a G or J sound, Gerald"... ser Randi says he is guessing "Gerald is a common name". G or J sound, common... try John, James, Jim.... it was a good reading (not all are), randi refused to acknowledge it. says, "he makes money doing this"... and randi doesn't? yikes.. could do a reality show of bad readers and bad debunkers

in order to prove psychic ability then ALL a psychic would have to do is get results that are greater than that possible through cold reading and other tricks in a controlled environment. Yet even when there's a million dollar prize for just this nobody can do it. just why not?

James Randi obviously thinks he is doing mankind a great service debunking mediums and psychics. Problem is, HE looks like a nut job too! I am thinking his ego is all wrapped up in this and he is using it to draw attention to himself. How altruistic of him.
