About Chinese calligraphy clerical style http://www.art-virtue.com/styles/li/index.htm

Randomly selected sample characters (not a phrase):
守 guard; keep
居 live
城 city
Note: In ancient China, it was common to write an extra Dot beside 土 (soil). But don't add a Dot to 王 (king) otherwise it becomes 玉 (jade).

  • The red lines inside each box look like 米 (rice). So it's called 米字格 (rice character grids). They have many sizes and other formats besides 米字格.

  • What is the name for this larger box of red lines for calligraphy practice in Mandarin.

My boxes seem smaller than yours. Thank you.
