(SOME audio parts are out of sync with some of video,sorry)-Benedictine monastery dating from 1230.AD located in northern Scotland.
Pluscarden Abbey is the home of a community of Roman Catholic Benedictine monks. It is the only medieval monastery in Britain still inhabited by monks and being used for its original purpose.
The atmosphere of quiet reflection and of work dedicated to the glory of God is the same now as it was in the thirteenth century, when a community of monks first came to this part of Moray.
The Mass and full Divine Office are sung by the monks each day in the Abbey church, using Gregorian Chant.

Thus the monks of Pluscarden conceive their primary service to lie in prayer, regular observance and their life in common.
Unlike most monasteries, Pluscarden has chosen to keep Latin in the Mass and the full Divine Office.

called in love to "give themselves over to God alone in solitude and silence, in constant prayer and willing penance"; and among these are monks whose "principal duty is to present to the Divine Majesty a service at once humble and noble within the walls of the monastery" (Vatican II Perfectae Caritatis 7 & 9).

"Hearken, my son, to the precepts of the master and incline the ear of your heart; freely accept and faithfully fulfil the instructions of a loving father, that by the labour of obedience you may return to him from whom you strayed by the sloth of disobedience. To you are my words now addressed, then, if you are ready to give up your own will, once and for all, and armed with the strong and noble weapons of obedience to fight for the true King, Christ the Lord".-St. Benedict of Norcia

This perfectly expresses the loving, austere, obedient and humble life of the cloister and, without any compromise, situates the monk on the victorious side in the cosmic battle between good and evil. He fights in this spiritual combat "against the spiritual hosts of wickedness" (Ephesians 6:12)

vision of the monastic life: "Therefore we intend to establish a school for the Lord's service; in founding it we hope to set down nothing that is harsh or burdensome. The good of all concerned, however, may prompt us to a little strictness in order to amend faults and to safeguard love. Do not be at once dismayed by fear and run away from the way of salvation, of which the entrance must needs be narrow. But as we progress in our monastic life and in faith, our hearts shall be enlarged and we shall run with inexpressible sweetness of love in the way of God's commandments; so that, never abandoning his instructions but persevering in his teaching in the monastery until death, we shall share by patience in the sufferings of Christ that we may deserve also to share in his kingdom. Amen."

  • @henrikhankhagnell i know the Tridentine Mass has been celebrated their by visiting FSSP priest for conferences and retreats., but the Monastery does not.

  • @henrikhankhagnell you may go to their website and read bout that, or write them, but, they Celebrate the Traditional Gregorian/Latin Divine Office, and for Holy Mass solemn prayerful,'Novus Ordo' Latin/Gregorian, (Not Tridentine) along the lines of the Abbey at Solesmes. whose books they utilize, although Pluscarden belong to the Congregation of Subiaco, and are considered the more conservative within that Congregation, especially, in UK..PAX

  • do these monks celebrate the modern Liturgies or the traditional?
