Sal Gomez shot this video tour of the house Karen & Richard Carpenter bought for their parents. It's the home Karen died in and there is an effort underway to save the house from demolition, the home is seen on one of their album covers.
After the death of his mother Richard sold the home on Newville Ave. A few years later Richard and his family moved out of their Downey home several blocks from this home and moved to the Westlake Village area north of Los Angeles.
If I could clarify, this video was not shot by Randy Schmidt however the convention was organized by Randy and Yuko Ogura. At the time of the is video the home WAS NOT owned or occupied by any of the Carpenter family members. The house had been sold and many of the items owned by the Carpenters did in fact remain in the home. Sadly, the home has changed dramatically since this visit. The old rehearsal room as well as the beautiful Japanese Garden that Richard had installed for his father.
I can't help it but I don't like the feeling of all those people being all over the house touching, taking pictures on Richards chair. It seems as though the Carpenter's privacy is being invaded. I don't know it I am saying it correctly, but it just doesn't seem right. I see there wasn't any order. If they came to see the home then it should of been done in a way that they just looked, and not touch in respect of the dead, just my thoughts and feelings.
I love the Carpenters music. The house is very important to me and others all around the world would say the same. The house is just as important as Elvis's Graceland.
Does anyone else agree this is a freak show?????? She died here and everyone is having a party. Brutal man brutal!!!!
wow.
