  • I've always known Lori was the original "Killing me softly" performer and always admired her as a singer.

Yesterday I happened to witness a radio interview with Lori and I FELT she was being hugely 'misacknowledged' (again) by the interviewer and I just HAD to say something to Lori and stepped forward shook Lori's hand and did.

I don't know what happened after but I felt she could appreciate that asked me my name and thanked me warmly, by the way (my name is 'Johannes' or 'Jan')

  • @istimewa1x - Lori is a fabulous musician, incredible composer, and a wonderful human being. It was an absolute joy to work with her (I'm the guy in the video with dreadlocks) when we did the above performance (and again that night on the Woodsongs stage). I've worked with a lot of people in this business for over 25 years and my few days with Lori & Joe definitely ranks among my best musical experiences ever.

  • They both are great singers, but what captures my heart is her lyrics. Is this young boy real, who is he?....

It sounds like the start of a story.......

  • Wintergirl9 - Lori wrote the original lyrics about singer Don McLean when she saw him in a little club years ago. If you like it, you might try giving her new material a listen (the CD is "Gun Metal Sky") - great lyrics & arrangements!

  • For you kids out there, this is what's called talent.

Writing talent, instrumental talent, and Lordy, singing talent. Lori Lieberman was a gorgeous 20 year old, and she is now a beautiful mature woman.

    A haunting classic.

Do you hear anything like this being done now?

  • reminds me of the '70's Don, Lori & Roberta...was very young then...the time of JT, Carole & Cat

  • She looks great for 56, and beautiful voice too of course.

  • THIS IS THE REAL STORY SO LETS CLEAR THE AIR. YES THIS SONG IS ABOUT DON McCLAIN BUT LORI DID NOT WRITE IT.NORMAN GIMBEL DID AND CHARLES FOX WROTE THE MUSIC TO THIS PIECE. JUST THE BASIC IDEA WAS HERS AFTER SHE ATTENDED A DON McCLAIN CONCERT. SHE ASKED NORMAN TO WRITE IT AND NORMAN ASKED CHARLES TO DO THE MUSIC. LORI WAS THE FIRST TO RECORD IT. THEN ROBERTA FLACK SO THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS.

  • So fucking American to make a band smaller then the fucking tv- stars. The musicinans have a lot to think about. i used to played the guitar. Gave my guitar to a homeless person . He was way off better than me. But i had the money...

  • Her amazing voice still exciting - the melody with the worfs are Killing Me Softly

  • Lori is indeed the original singer of this classic. But she was not the only one to do it before Roberta Flack. Perry Como did a version shortly thereafter with a very similar folk arrangement to Lori's. His cover was "sex-changed" into "KMS With HER Song"

Also (possibly) pre dating Flack's(but not 100% sure) was a rather fast version by Bobby Goldsboro(of "Honey" fame), also as "..Her Song.

  • Her voice is as sweet and beautiful as ever.

  • @SkinnyDevilMusicLab I remember you that sundayafternoon. I congratulate you for being that fortunate WAAAUW, what an honour! I can imagine it's exciting to work with Lori. My friend went to see her performance(don't know if you were there) at the Carré in Amsterdam and is still enthusiastic about it!!!
