Canada supports several national governance programs that benefit the province of Kandahar, including the contribution of funds for civil service and police salaries through the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund and Law and Order Trust Fund.
In addition, Canada has set up a Governance Support Office (GSO) in Kabul to provide expert technical support and advice to the Afghan government in key areas such as policing services, human rights law, elections operations, vocational programming and education, engineering, financial management and administration.
Canada is helping to advance Afghanistan's capacity for democratic governance with funding of up to $35 million to support the core components of the elections process, including voter registration, recruitment and training of election officials, production and transportation of election materials and verification of results
