A BBC Four documentary in which Simon Russell Beale explores the flowering of
Western sacred music.

He travels to Germany and Austria to explore the work of the musical giant Anton
Bruckner. With reference also to Brahms, and with Harry Christophers and his
choir The Sixteen, Beale discovers how Bruckner approached his sacred music as a
devout Catholic, while Brahms found himself unable to believe in anything but
his music.

Beale visits Bruckner's birth house in Ansfelden, pays his respects in the crypt
at the monastery in St Florian where Bruckner lies underneath his Organ. Overall
very tastefully done and enjoyable!
