It would get clogged with weed. That's the problem! Instead they just turn it off whenever they see a seal near it.

If they are that worried about damage to marine mammals then they can just put a mesh guard around it. The same as a desk fan!

I think it was April 2008,I have seen later reports of this system and is now fully functional and working extremely well.I like this system tides are regular so MW outputs are totally predictable and the UK has many suitable sites where tides could be exploited.Also its an engineering intensive solution and would create many jobs if implemented.
