Religion does not have any of its own resources - they are hijacked from other areas of human life.

Cynical and desperate religious leaders are trying harder and harder to claim that some of the most numinous and personal human experiences are the unique province of religion. They are doing this because they are increasingly realising that they have nothing else left in reserve. They are bankrupt.
