The Transplant Games: How It All Began

The National Kidney Foundation's U.S. Transplant Games began in 1990 with a simple idea brought forth by a group of transplant recipients: to create an Olympic-style competition of athletes living with transplanted organs. Nothing like it had ever taken place in the United States, but research, planning, and dedicated individuals brought together transplant athletes who were living life to the fullest. And what an event of legacy and triumph it was!
