After California government allowed logging of the redwood trees, the oldest trees in the world, the state population was divided into two camps: lumber companies and environmentalists. One of the staunchest defenders of the forest was a young student, Julia Butterfly Hill. At the end of 1997, when it became apparent that demonstrations, picket lines and protests were not going to work, Hill climbed to the crown of a 600-year-old redwood tree. During 738 days of her protest in the tree named Luna, Julia gave countless radio and TV interviews, contributing to the awakening of environmental awareness among Californians. Funds raised during Hill's two-year crusade saved Luna and hundreds of other, similar trees. The unconventional method of protest invented by Julia Butterfly Hill has been copied by thousands of environmental activists around the world.

This woman is my idol. I want to do the same thing she did, especially living in a tree. She's amazing.
