Video of a Viper Mk II from Battlestar Galactica in my driveway. While I do actually own one of these, it was in the shop, so I had to make this composite video with blender and final cut pro so you could see what it looks like in the driveway.

Shot with a Canon t2i.

  • really steady and accurate MT- did you used vodoo?

  • @soogoonu For this I used a program called Icarus. Now I am using the built in motion-tracking in some of the experimental versions of blender and it works very well.

  • great work. I know it was a test and it looks great, just a little jumpy but not bad at all. the shadow thou needs more work. a good hint is to film the same area with in minutes of your shot. with something casting a shadow. a great way is to hold film some one holding a flat piece of cardboar and moveing it up and down, to give you a good idea of how the shadow should look from diffent hights and on that spot...same goes for glass and reflections. but still great work!

  • @1crazyfocker Thanks for the tip about the shadow. I honestly didn't give the shadow much thought until I rendered everything out and noticed how obvious the lack of shadow made it look.

  • Dude - that was really cool. Thanks for that demo. Gotta brush up on Blender.

About how long did take you to get the hang of the interface?

  • @TLionelH It probably took my about 2 months of on and off tutorial viewing to get comfortable with the new post 2.5 interface.

  • @CelosTV I honestly have no experience in cinema 4d and very limited experience in Max. The user interface seems more intuitive in Blender 2.5 than 3d Max, but that just could be my limited experience in Max talking. Blender is a viable option for professional and commercial uses. There are experimental versions of blender with insanely fast motion tracking built in and a new physics based rendering engine built in. I recommend trying it out. It's free after all.

  • You find my car

  • how long did take to bake..?

  • nice

  • The motion tracking works really well. All you need to do is polish up the surface of the Viper. Give it some texture and maybe a dirt map. Also I have noticed a shadow underneath the landing gear which means the model needs to be a bit lower.

  • is this a free tracking program? how about tomato branch?

  • @AtticLightStudio how do you track so well with the current Blender tracker? My footage is aways way too blurry :/

  • Very Very nice!!!!

  • Great work! How did you import the tracking data to blender?
