  • The Public OPTION does not make people go on it!!!! You are given a choice.... KEEP your PRIVATE insurance if you are concerned about the long wait times!!! The rich people insurance companies and republicans are doing a good job of blocking this thing. DEMS need to grow a pair and PUSH this through.... hey have been debating this for 50 years! They are trying to stall and kill the bill.

  • Agnosticautonomy - maybe you're confused about the point repeatedly being made about the public plan. Yes, it will not directly force you to go on it, but because it will be subsidized by taxpayer money, ie, have the ability to undercut private insurance companies, private insurance companies will go under, thus leaving only the public plan as a viable entity.

Do you understand that yet? Or do you have as much trouble with logical deductions as our president?

  • The congressional Budget Office has already said that will not happen. They said the public option would compete but would not run the private insurers out of business. This is a non-partisan group that the Republicans praised when they said the plan would cost too much.

It is Capitalism! if the public option is going to bring longer lines, cant see your doctor, and a negative experience, people are no going to jump on board, they are going to keep their private plan.

  • 1) The Congressional Budget Office was hailed by conservatives for doing what it has an expertise in - predicting financial numbers. Whether or not employers will jump to the public plan for lower costs is not questions the CBO typically answers.

    2) The CBO's "slam" of this claim comes in the fact that they say employer-based coverage will increase. Which I agree, it will. But if the public option is cheaper for employers, then employer-based insurance of the PUBLIC OPTION will increase.

  • There is suppose to be an alternative for businesses, the point you just raised was one raised (in # 2) by the blue dogs.

  • Oh please explain this one to me agnostic! You're saying that there is an "alternative" for businesses, right? And what is that "alternative" exactly? A business-version of the public option, correct? Which will still be subsidized by taxpayers, ie., stronger incentive for businesses to use it over private insurers.

  • Also businesses that choose not to use the gov't plan will be audited... Is that extortion or dose it just smell funny???

  • Currently, private insurance companies whose primary motivation is profit makes those decisions for people. They spend 30% of every dollar on administrative costs, much of which goes to paying people to figure out how to deny you care. So, our choice is between a government bureaucracy which is accountable to the people and a health insurance industry which provably acts against the people.
