  • Question. How far under the surface is your bait?

    What is your preferred bait?

  • @medicstew - I prefer live bream when I can catch them. Otherwise, I use bait shop golden shiners as large as I can find. Most shops carry 3" shiners, calling them "bass minnows." Occassionally, you can find "brooders" that are up to 5" long, but they're prohibitively expensive. I can legally bait trap bream up to 4" in length for use as bait. Larger bream are also legal for bait in my state, but they have to be "pole caught." With catfish, larger bait = larger fish caught.

  • @medicstew - I like to fish live bait anywhere from right at the surface where they make a lot of commotion down to 2 - 3 ft below the surface. The water in that video is 10 -12 deep. If you fish live bait on limb lines too deep, your bait will wrap the line up on underwater limbs, etc. Feeding catfish will come up to the base of a tree or stump, working their way up toward the surface. The bait definitely doesn't have to be on the bottom as some believe.

  • Way are you keeping so much?

  • @srbijajenakosmetu - Stocking the freezer for the year. I mostly fish from Oct through Feb. Family eats what I catch over the whole year. I give a lot of fish away to people who are needy.

  • @srbijajenakosmetu - Daily limit is 10.

  • @ttenni ok

  • @ttenni no harm intended I dont know your states laws or where your even fishing at... Just thought that I would be helpful and maybe by chance someone from a state that doesnt allow foul hooked fish would read it!!! Its sometimes over looked!! again no harm intended!!

  • @Johnboy19751 Well, Johnboy, I recon you would do well to take your own advice. I am quite familiar will my state's hunting and fishing "Code of Regulations" - all 322+ pages of them! The text string "foul hook" cannot even be found therein. If I had a dollar for every idiot who projected their state's fishing regulations upon me and my state, I'd be a very wealthy man. If your state has chicken-shit laws, that's your problem. When you watch my videos, you're not in Kansas anymore, Toto!
