War has decimated societies across the globe causing the destruction of innocent lives. It has left mothers and fathers crying, sisters and brothers dying, a shared history of tragedy for all humankind. As a collective global community we must come to understand that the ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing that it seeks to destroy. Darkness cannot drive out darkness because only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, because only love can do that. In order to spread the light of love, rather than building barriers that divide us we must construct bridges to unite. For when we fail to recognize our common humanity, we resort to vile tactics construed as essential and deemed to be acceptable.
Anti-personnel landmines are inhuman weapons designed to maim rather than kill. Although the guns may settle and peace is declared, the threat of landmines remains. Failing to discriminate between a military and civilian target, these weapons are prohibited under International Humanitarian Law and as such, 156 states have already agreed that there is no place in this world for their use.
The push for progress persists, the momentum is being maintained and the cause will continue until we have collectively created a world free from landmines. Presenting, Blast From Below.
