I marched on the hikoi demanding that Maori get three seats on the new "super city" council being proposed for Auckland.
There will be 23 seats all up on the new council, which will take away the seven district councils now representing greater Auckland. Not only were we marching for Maori representation we were also demanding a more democratic representation for all of us Maori, Pakeha, Pacific Islanders, Asians, Indians, Africans everyone that makes up what is now one of the most multicultural cities in the world. Our city is growing rapidly, thanks to immigration one in every three Aucklanders has arrived here from somewhere else, either from within or without Aotearoa New Zealand.
Kia ora whanau that was a awesome day. We did what was needed and right and too much whanau I feel proud to be maori, especially on that day
