I think there is a misunderstanding about this recipe. This is NOT for making some fabulous, wonderful stuff, this is for CHEAP, and for survival. I am a survivalist, this is to be used, when you are down to same base supplies, or pinching pennies to the extreme. So please people, stop telling me it sux, it is what it is, a way to help stretch a dollar, and to learn how to make things out of your base supplies :)
Base recipe
1 grated bar ivory soap
2 cups boiling water
dish soap add 1/4 cup vinegar
body soap add 1/4 cup moisurizer
shampoo add 1/4 cup conditioner

@sarahminty if you took a moment to read the ingredients of your store bought shampoo, hand soap, body wash and dish soap, you will see that they all share some common ingredients, some that are nearly impossible to pronounce, plus dyes and perfumes. If you have such a problem with using soap on your hair, stop washing with shampoo and start using some kind of clarifying oils/water instead...Witch-hazel perhaps? Oh wait, that's basically Sea Breeze the facial wash.

@chookphuker Try using any bar soap by itself before making your mix. If you have a reaction to it you may be able to take it back to the store or contact the manufacturer for some kind of refund. If you can't do that, you could see if you have any friends or family that can use it. Either way you'll save your time and won't have a full mix of something that you can't return or otherwise use.

@CanadianPatriot1973 If using Vaseline/Petroleum jelly, you may as well just use the soap straight in the shower and then use the V/PJ as an after moisturizer. It won't gunk up your mix of any recipe, and you will end up using a lot less of the Vaseline/Jelly. A little of that stuff goes a long way.
You may also be better off putting something like baby oil in your mix if you want the moisturizer in it, but again you won't have to add as much.

@CanadianPatriot1973 Just a side note-- lather is not just created from chemicals which are added to products.. all natural home made soaps which are super inexpensive to make can have natural additives like coconut oil which produces a wonderful lather and is light and moisturizing for your skin and not super expensive.. a 16 oz bottle runs about 4 dollars and you can use it in several batches of soap. Just a side note :)

- Loading more suggestions...
So far I've only made the dishsoap. For some reason after i used it, there was some residue left on my glasses. Should I maybe use more vinegar to keep this from happening? I also rinse in cold water.... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

@23Lakes I have found this as well sometimes, and yes that is what I do. I have also thought maybe adding jet dry might work. Havent tried it yet though.

If my skin is agitated by Ivory soap, is there another that you can suggest that I could use and it work as well for these recipes?
And I wanted to thank you for your time.

@azaleasmomma absolutley any soap would work. Just work with what you have. I only used Ivory because it is what I found cheap :)

ivory soap smell strong ,dont your dishes get that smell dont think is good for plates
34dragonkid 1 year ago
@34dragonkid that "strong" smell is the fact that there are no perfumes. Real, soap does have a strong smell. You are just not used to it.
