@ShroomieinAr Exactly. During a live show certain instruments are louder than others and without any voice monitoring the singer may not be able to hear their voice, so the ear monitors are a way for the singer and musicians to hear their voice and certain mixes.

I've seen Gary Allan several times in the past. Does he wear a hearing aid usually, or is it just when doing shows?

It isn't a hearing aid that he wears. Well I guess it sort of is but not in the way you would think. It is like a little monitor that he can hear himself and the band through. It can be so loud in those shows and hard to hear yourself sing also hard to hear the music. Also he can turn his mic off to the crowd and talk into it then all the band members can hear him through their ear pieces and vice versa.
