- Tell Nick thanks, she said. And please make sure he gets home. Ill phone Miss Blake.
- OK, but dont worry about it too much, I can see he feels awful.
- He should!
- Del, easy.
- Sorry, its just that he always told me about how bad drinking was, and now look what he does!

Nick was down before us, and already sitting at a table, with strangers. Mr. Portman was nowhere to be seen. We went over to Nick.
- Hi, we said to the people he was sitting with.
There were two guys and one girl. They smiled and we introduced ourselves.
- Nick, I said, where is he?
- He told me to tell you hes sorry, but he had to go home fast. I think he was just embarrassed enough.
- Oh.
- So thanks for your help last night, Kev said cheerfully to the older guy, Victor.
- No problem, it was a nice coincidence that we were heading to the same hotel.
- Yeah, definitely, laughed Kev.
A waitress came by with two small platters. Me and my brothers, put our hands to our mouths and turned slightly away. The act was so coordinated, that the others at the table could not miss it.
- What was all that? asked the girl, Roxanne, to Nick.
He looked at me, then at Kevin.
- Well, began Nick, we dont want to be recognized.
- Why? she asked.
- Cause we dont want a scene.
- I dont understand, said Roxanne. Why would you make a scene?
- Not us, said Kevin, her... or anyone else who recognizes us.
- You know, this is the first time we actually come down to breakfast. Until now we jus ordered it to our room, I said.
- Are you in some band? asked the younger guy, Mike.
My brothers and I looked at them, amazed by their lack of knowledge.
- Wait, said Kev, are you saying you dont know who we are?
- No, said Mike, should I?
I pulled out my wallet, and showed him a picture from one of our concerts. It was me and my brothers on stage, in the middle of a performance. I always thought it was the best picture of us, so I always carried it with me.
- Wow, said Mike, taking the photo from my hand, look at the size of the stage!
He then showed it to Victor and Roxanne. They were just as surprised as he was.
- Who are you? whispered Victor.
- Were the Jonas Brothers, I said.
- Oh, Ive heard of you! jumped Roxanne. Youll have to excuse us, but we dont really have time to check out new bands.
- Its ok, chuckled Kevin.
- So you must be very famous here,right? she asked eagerly.
- You could say that, said Nick.
- Are you doing a show here? asked Victor.
- No, were just visiting, I said.
- And arent you supposed to have bodyguards wherever you go?
- Were trying to keep this visit a secret.
- Aha, and you think thats wise?
- Uhm, no, I dont think its wise. But there are some things that I just feel I have to do.
Victor nodded.
- This girl must mean a lot to you, then, he smiled.
I couldnt believe how easily he had figured me out. I was lost for words, but he didnt continue the subject, instead, he asked another question, to Nick.
- So as a professional, how did you like Roxannes performance last night?
Nick turned a bit red. Uh, I thought she was very good, he managed.
- What? you went to a gig? asked Kevin.
- Well she sang in that bar I went to, explained Nick.
Kevin rolled his eyes.
- Why didnt you two come with him? asked Victor.
- He wanted to be alone, answered Kev, throwing Nick some flares.
Mike laughed, he found Kevins annoyance very funny.
- Dont worry, he said, shell be singing again tonight, same place, same time.
Nick immediately accepted wed come, so me and Kev really had no choice.
- You should bring your friend as well, said Victor, looking at me.
I nodded unwillingly.
- Hey, how much time do we still have? said Mike to Victor.
- Oh, an hour, he answered, checking his watch. Sorry boys, maybe well get to chat later tonight. We have to go, its the only time Roxanne can rehearse.
Mike signed to Roxanne to get up. Before doing so, she turned to Nick: - Meet me back here at 5?
Nick nodded, trying to ignore Kevins stare.
