For an objective look

Looking at the English and Japanese Visual Novel ranking sites, this is at the top of both lists. To see the English listing, google vndb . It has a 9.43 raw mean, with 70% of it's votes being 10's. The only thing translated that is remotely close is Clannad, with a 9.11 raw mean. As stated it is also on top of the Japanese site, with a median of 97% for one version and 92% for another version. It fully deserves the praise Time is giving it.

most anime-related entertainment coming from Japan is so utterly shit. The lack of anything resembling a coherent story, the utter lack of any believable or even interesting character, the abundance of semi-philosophical, spiritual and scientific themes that do not make any sense but are just there to be 'cool', the entire artstyle that reeks of a strong tangent for pedophilia and the overacting and overreacting

@GrievousCommander Just to be clear, its Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse which is getting an anime. Takeru and the rest of the cast of MLA won't even be in it.
