Oh, lordy, I bought one of these cars in '79 and I beat the shit out of it. My car payment was $69.00 / mo.
It never got close to 30 mpg, and was severely under powered and cheaply built, but G.M. and Ford had nothing that could compare to a stripped-down four-speed four-cylinder. It ran cheap in the days of the OPEC oil embargo and our various "energy crisis." (That's still going on today.)
@jakesaintsrow123 . Did not look at those but did look at the Datsun 120Y and Corolla . Had a drive of benji today . One special drive. I drove benji to work on the first day of my job in 1985 and today as I prepare for early retirement in a couple of days I drove him to the office to clear out my stuff. Talk about nostalgia.
@tigalbaby AWESOME, Haha That Is SO COOL...My Horizon is Amazing Thanks, when I Bought it the Hatch Lid had a JESUS Sticker On It So if i Was so name my car anything I Would probabily name it Jesus haha...I Love it and I Plan On keeping it for a Long time..I Love late 70's early 80's cars In general but hatchback's and economy cars are even better, In 79 did you look at the Omni or horizon at all??
@jakesaintsrow123 . The mazda is now part of the family. He is named benji. Everything original. ran it this morning. This car will run forever. last body job in 2002 , no rust since. what is amazing is that I still get parts for it. Hope your horizon is giving as much pleasure as my benji.
@tigalbaby WOW You Kidding? you Still have your GLC After that many Years? Wow that's a Long time..I Have a 1978 Plymouth horizon But I Bought it in 2009...still runs and drives great...No rust..How's your Mazda?

I still have my 1979 323 purchased on October 11 1979. This is one special machine and drives like new 32 years later.
