ban bad owners not the dogs, if the bad owners get jail time for making the dog aggessive, that might help stop the problem. i have friends with pits that are very loving animals. banning one breed will only make them find another to abuse. the law needs to deal with the source of the problem...BAD OWNERS!!!

yes! ban the owner(s). it's people who make these dogs wicked. what most fail to realize is that these dogs were not bred to be human agressive and those pit bulls who are were either trained that way, abused and/or inbred.

Animal abuse is wrong no doubt about it, but whether you like it or not pitbulls have been known for pitbulls not to only kill children but inocent owners. In addition the numbers don't mention the number of injured. Those shown injured by other dogs probably got to close and freindly with a stray or a dog that does not know them.

All agressive breeds such as Pitbulls should be banned.

I live in Germany and Pits, Staffs and Bulls are forbidden to be bred and in some parts even forbidden to keep. It's sad, because I really love those dogs. But in some cities you get into trouble when you go out with dogs like that. And all that because of some idiots, who needed to pimp their not existing manliness. Sorry for my english, hope I got my point across. :)

@skwinkle79 won't let go with a kick? hmmm i have a male pit that a stray attacked (after the stray tried to attack me and i kicked it) and my male pit pinned the dog down by it's throat but when i yelled break (a word used to train my dog to stop whatever behavior i wanted him to stop) my dog let go and came and sat beside me. so please tell me again that a pit won't let go. and i am no thug, white trash or anything like that

@Chronos2112 actually the ones who attack are the exceptions and the stable even tempered pits are the rule. of course the owners say they are suprised because if not they would be charged criminally. and if you check out statistics you will find that pits are more stable tempered than most other dogs. do the research before making a blanket statement such as this

@Chronos2112 no dog is predictable and when a child is hurt by ANY dog the first question i have is where were the parents. i have 2 pits and i don't feel the need to justify that to anyone. many "pit bull attacks" turn out to be a different breed of dog all together. i have been charged by one dog and had one recently try to attack me and both were strays. the owners just didn't take responsibility for their dogs

Heck remember the baby who's toes were chewed off by a pit bull puppy? Turned out it was a FERRET. Also turned out the parents were investigated for drug use. I don't blame the ferret for that. And it was sick that the pit bull puppy got blamed because it was "the likely suspect".

Once she confirmed it was not a pit bull, the news stopped calling it a "pit bull attack" and instead changed it to "dog attack". In the history of the media, each new decade brings a new "enemy" dog to write about. German Shepherds, Dobies, Rottis, Pit Bulls, Mastiffs are likely next and then it will be some other breed. Go to the site understand-a-bull(dot)com to read more news stories where they call it a pit bull, but its actually a lab, border collie, etc.

And yes, there is a conspiracy in the media. Its called ratings. If you'd get your head out of your ass sometime, and actually check up on many of these "pit bull" attacks, you'd find out many weren't pit bulls at all. Remember the French woman who's face was ripped off by "a pit bull" and she got a face transplant. International news called the dog a pit bull over and over again. Turned out, it was a purebred black Labrador that SHE owned.

No, its the dog owners fault for placing the dog and child together and not properly supervising them. A majority of dog attacks on children, the child was left along in he yard/house/room with the dog or the owners let the dog roam loose.

And I am NOT a pit bull owner! NO pit bull ever tried to bite me. NONE. And I have personally handled a lot of rescued fighting dogs, broke up fights between pit bulls, never been bit. Never had them attempt to bite me.
