The first jet fighter that was scrambled during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks arrived Tuesday at the Sonoma County airport, where it will become the centerpiece of a memorial at the air museum.
@thetinbender , As a Former Missile Warning and NORAD Emergency Action Officer, you are mistaken. We could give the order to shoot down any aircraft in unauthorized areas that posed a threat.
The problem that day is we were running a live exercise that closely mirrored what actually happened. Distinguishing between Real World and Exercise confused many people which led to time being wasted.
@TheDudeFrom0Z You have no clue how an intercept works. Before 9/11 our pilot had to wait for authorization from the President to shot down a civilian aircraft. That has since changed. It is true that there was nothing the pilots could do to prevent the attacks but they did prevent others since then. I am still defending your right to spread BS.
@adambombiswaycool maybe however i think its bullshit that that air traffic controllers didnt notice it earlier in the flight plan, there definetly should of been something done. RIP by the way. 09/11
@TheDudeFrom0Z The F-15s were dispatched as soon as they got noticed that thee planes were hijacked. It takes time to get there unfortunately, and the second plane flew into the building 16 minutes after it took off, so unless the F-15s could teleport, it wasnt fast enough to get there.
I was a member of the 102nd FW when 9/11 went down. This was the FIRST DEFENDER to respond. After spending 29 plus years defending the FREDOMS that allow you to speak such CRAP, APPALLS me. GOD BLEES THE USA AND THOSE WHO DEFEND HER.
