It was a big day at Gordon School today. After yesterday's snow day, a number of events squeezed into a Thursday that was already busy.
The Visiting Artist, Kirsten Hassenfeld, was leaving at the end of the week. Third, fifth, seventh and eighth graders hurried to get their projects done. Ms. Hassenfeld hurried to be sure she'd visited with every student.
The Kindergarten popcorn sale was rescheduled to today. The event drew in the entire school. It is about sharing, and it is about math.
The customers recognized the multiple layers of learning and gently drilled the Kindergarteners on their math.
Chinese New Year came up in a number of classrooms, both by accident and by design. Kindergarten practiced their Huagu Ge. Fifth grade talked about ancient China in a study that will culminate with May's Immersion Week.
Fourth grade was beginning their study of Chinese immigration with some online research.
Outside, it was too icy for sledding. Too snowy for football, too, but don't tell the fourth graders that.
Eighth graders were deep into a review of US history. It was their last chance to ask questions about Rutherford B. Hayes, and clear up the details of Turnaround Tuesday,
before they go to Georgia and Alabama next week.
Next week, they'll be gone.
Kirsten Hassenfeld will be gone.
The popcorn will be gone
And maybe,
maybe the snow will be gone.
