i normally use a flash mode for morning rides when there is a bit of fog but i don't need to illuminate anything on the road.

for those making a decision based on this, do remember this MiNewt is the 2010 version, which is of considerably less output than the 2011 version. 40 lumens less, if you're familiar with that scale (the '10 is a 110L light). also, the '11 MiNewt does indicate when charging is complete, and when it is almost drained. I can't speak for the Hope because I don't need a light that bright. great review.

On the Mi-newt 150 usb 2011 model you have high, med and low. Hold button for 3 seconds and it goes to flash mode, flash mode is for daytime riding, Also with it's compact size it makes a great helmet light, I have a Mi-newt 350 mounted on the bike and the 150 mounted on my helmet, The helmet light works great when railing around a dark corner

Hi all!
Thanks for the comments.
Yep, as pointed out by others, the MiNewt here is now the older version. Can't comment on the new one but it seems they've taken note of its shortfalls and improved for 2011.
Now lent the MiNewt to a friend and kept the Hope as a helmet light. Still going strong and recommended.
