Playing rather fast and loose with the real history here. Henry is depicted as dashing and handsome. In reality at this point in his life he was getting old and was grossly overweight and just generally disgusting and smelly. So much so that Catherine Howard on their wedding night was revolted by him. A truer depiction is in the series "The Six Wives of Henry VIII".

Yes, that is true. That's one of the reasons why I'm looking forward to the finale season ... let's see how the writers are going to deal with this particular problem.. =P

What I find weird about this series is that Henry does not seem to age. By the time he was courting Katherine he was nearly 50 and obese so history tells us. This actor still looks sexy and young. i think he is totally miscast - the real Henry was red-headed and fair - this guy looks Italian. The story is great, though, so maybe nobody really cares....

Ugh, screw Brandon and company, they all suck. Why Brandon takes everything out on Cromwell mystifies me; Cromwell only does what Henry tells him to and relays whatever message Henry has. Brandon should really despise Henry, not Cromwell, but that doesn't happen.

Cromwell got blamed for alot of Henry's shit. At the end of the day, everything happened because Henry wanted it to. KoA blamed Wolsey. Anne and Jane blamed Cromwell. Brandon blamed Cromwell. Everybody blamed somebody else. At the end of the day, there's only one king.

What kind of mistake did Cromwell make with Anne of Cleves? She was a girl from royal family, knew how to behave as a queen, the marriage to her meant a political alliance. It were his enemies who made a mistake with Katherine Howard, because she disgraced her husband. Besides, there is difference between "bring somebody down or prosecute" and "not to help somebody in trouble". I wonder, how he could help Wolsey or Katherine of Aragon, even if the queen's staunch friends failed to do it.

Well, Cromwell certainly took over with the annulment of the marriage to Catherine after Wolsey failed to come through, and this in turn helped to foster the persecution of both her and Mary. And he certainly did little to nothing to help his former mentor (Wolsey) when the latter fell into trouble, yet he was so concerned about Anne of Cleves? He definitely could not admit that he made a mistake with her, then he would really be putting his head on the block.

It's very difficult to use moral standards while speaking about actions of men in power. Otherwise we must accuse the whole human history. By the way, Cromwell didn't bring Wolsey down, nor prosecuted princess Mary and her mother. As for Anne of Cleves, his defence of her marriage cost him a life.
