By the way, the documentary on Mae West I just watched said she was just slightly over 5 feet tall ... so Mae was short. She looked tall in her movies because the documentary also said she wore 7" (yes I said 7") heels under her gowns. If you look at all her old photos, never do you see her feet because her long gowns covered it. Mae had mirrors on her bedroom ceiling and when asked why she would often reply "so I can see how I'm doing". Now that's a woman not afraid of her sexuality. Love her!

Just finished watching Mae West Intimate Portrait on Lifetime. Mae West was the epitome of sex goddess way back in her time well before Marilyn Monroe. Mae reminded me of a black woman with her sassiness, her walk, her talk. No other white woman even to this day can match her sex appeal. The dance she did in her act was the shimmy which Mae said she learned at a little hole in the wall jazz club on the southside of Chicago. That confirms that she got that 'umph' from watching black women.

She was "voluptuous" with an hour-glass figure and she was tall-she frequently was taller than the leading man. What a real woman should look like!

@ClassicTVful SO TRUE! Hollywood actresses today are stick thin, no charm, no grace. Mae was 5 feet tall with at least 130 pounds of meat on her, and to think she was a sex icon!

Mae west wasnt black, her father was white from the states and her mother was Bavarian. West was born Mary Jane West in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, delivered at home by an aunt who was a midwife. She was the eldest surviving child of John Patrick West and Matilda "Tillie" Doelger (also known as Matilda Delker Doelger), who had emigrated with her family from Bavaria to the United States in 1886. West's parents married on January 18, 1889, in Brooklyn.

@theyforcedmetosignup They would have made her lose weight too since she doesn't look like an anorexic totem pole with two watermelons on top.

Not sure why its important what 'race' Mae West was. The important tthing is, she was really amazing, sexy, talented and paved the way for other women actresses. Simply amazing

@gronlaf not appropriate
Hollywood couldn't handle Mae West today. She was sexy, smart, and talented. They wouldn't know what to do with her...

America is so fucked when we can't even watch this photo montage without a bunch of assholes (from both sides) making an issue of race. Piss off and let me enjoy the lady.
