They demolish the foliage and remove the topsoil, creating moonscapes and tailing ponds.
Is it asking so much for a plan to make the land viable again once they are done with it?
I'm not concerned with CO2 emissions, but last I checked, only Plants can convert it back into Oxygen tax-free.

WXY, the development of the oilsands is a result of market demand. Oil is very valuable, maybe even a preschooler like yourself has heard this before. Industry does everything possible to minimze the efects on the environment.
